It's probably no surprise that days after Lazarus was sentenced for first degree murder in the death of Sherri Rae Rasmussen, she filed an appeal with the State of California.
For the first few months afterwards, I kept checking the California Courts of Appeal web site to check the status of her appeal.
Imagine my surprise today when I checked the docket for Lazarus's appeal and I read that her court appointed attorney had missed a filing deadline. It appears that Lazarus's appeal went into default.
Below are a series of screen shots of the docket for Lazarus's appeal. At the very bottom you can see that Lazarus's appeal was due on May 20th, 2013. On May 24th, the appellate court sent a default notice to her appointed counsel. Does this mean it's over for Lazarus's appeal?
